Filming the Europeans in New Ipswich

Several scenes were filmed at Barrett House and Bullard-Barr House in New Ipswich, NH

Robin Ellis and Lee Remick filming a shot around the Central Cemetery

Film crew

The film crew complained about the sound of my camera shutter. I replied the chain saw in the distance was much louder. I was not going to pass up an opportunity like this.

It was fairly cold when they filmed this. Apparently Lee Remick had a hot water bottle.
I took the opportunity to meet Robin Ellis since at the time I was huge fan of the BBC series Poldark

Barrett House is getting a fresh look

Historic New England has been repainting the Barrett House in New Ipswich, NH
Most of the primer coat has been applied which will be followed by 2 finish coats

Light green primer on the shutters, followed by a dark green finish coat

The shutters required a lot of repair, many slats were missing or damaged

Poltrack Garden Update - June 19, 2014

I think a few years of working the soil has paid off. The tomatoes look nice and green.
Last year they were anemic in my failed attempt to grow them in 5 gallon buckets.
I also added some "Chicken Gold" compost purchased at Amazing Flower Farm here in New Ipswich.

This is the first year I've been somewhat successful with strawberries. Growing them in bins after wintering them over in the ground. This year I decided to use some straw as a mulch. Even with that, some of the ripe fruit has slug holes.
Maybe next year I'll experiment with ringing them with copper wires.

I'm tired of kneeling to pick snap beans, so once again I'm going to try a climbing pole variety. This is the first year that I have used straw as a mulch but I'm sold. I purchased this at Mason Brook Nursery, another local business in nearby Mason, NH

Everybody should grow peonies, they are the perfect perennial. They die back in the winter, they are insect resistant, they live about 75 years and they are absolutely beautiful.

Happy Father's Day

My Dad died on Mother's Day in 1999, thinking of him on this day

I'm one of the Post-War "Boomers" born after my dad returned from the War
We lived in Veteran Housing in Stamford, CT

He loved fishing and the Long Island Sound. Here he is teaching me about Salt Water

Don't let me go, I'll sink up to my neck!

He was a great fisherman. This Striped Bass could have eaten me!
