New Ipswich Sunrise

Support this blog by using this Amazon Link

My usual morning routine is to grab a cup of coffee and sit myself in front of the computer for a while.  On Saturday my wife told me to look outside. I almost missed this wonderful sunrise. Just as a extra, there was a rainbow in the west. The light changes quickly and no photograph can do it justice. Isn't nature amazing?

Great colors as the sun was arising

And in the west a double rainbow

Strange Light made leaves more colorful

Looking East

Morning Light, Autumn is great

My dog ate my ballot

This presidential election has not been kind to my blood pressure. I find myself ranting at the television, but unable to just turn it off. I needed a break from this, I needed a bit of humor. My family provided some levity with a true story.

My niece lives in Colorado, one of the states that allows early voting. She obtained her ballot but ran into a bit of difficulty when she was ready to fill it out.

She was able to get a replacement ballot but it was not easy. When I learn of that story I'll update this posting.

You can hear your partner talk while the music is play'n!

Life magazine was a photojournalism magazine that ran weekly from 1883 to 1972 and monthly from 1978 to 2002. My favorite section of the magazine was named Parting Shots which usually featured humorous or unusual photos. Since I have a number of my own photos which don't seem to fit a distinct category, I've decided to add a new theme to this blog named Random Shots. It seems fitting that the first one features a trick shooter.

I saw this flyer nailed on a telephone pole in Ashby, MA. I'm a fan of Polka Music so I looked for a video. Little did I realize that he had another talent, blasting apart baseballs while playing the harmonica. I need to see this guy in action.

Pumpkin Regatta

Support this blog by using this Amazon Link

Curcubita maxima is a variety of squash that can exceed 2000 pounds. Every Autumn the New Hampshire town of Goffstown sponsors a Pumpkin Regatta featuring a race of the giant gourds in the Piscataquog River Reservoir in the center of town.

The festivities start with a pumpkin weigh off for the state championship. There is a drop of a giant gourd from 70 feet into a swimming pool, a road race, firing apples from sling shots and as a finale a race of the giant pumpkins piloted by folks in costumes. This year the theme was superheroes.

Students from Emerson College are making a documentary about the Regatta, more photos can be seen on their Facebook Page

Each pumpkin is numbered in a raffle, the first one to cross the finish line was supposed to be the winner. However the drought has slowed the current so a boat assist was required to herd them over the line.
